Spark says virtual shareholder meeting a New Zealand first

October 2015

Spark shareholders will be able to watch and cast their vote at Spark’s annual general meeting without having to look up from their computer screens.

The telco is trialling a “virtual meeting” service, which it says is a first for a listed company in New Zealand or Australia.

Shareholders will be able to join those physically present at the meeting in Auckland by watching the presentations, voting on resolutions and asking questions online.

Virtual annual meetings have been a long time coming, with some hoping New Zealand companies would start hosting them following law changes in 2012.

Annual meetings were first held live online in the United States in 2009, a move which helped triple the number of shareholders voting on company resolutions.
